MY THOUGHTS ON BUTTERS FROM AFRO VEDA....

Hello my fellow fabulous naturals!   After hearing all the rave about the afroveda hair butters I just couldn't wait to give it a try.  So, I waited and waited until I had a few extra dollars to spare before placing an order.
Well that day has come and gone ...I have since placed my order and have received my products.  Now, previously I did a post on their shampoo bar, and for those of you who read it know how much I looooove it !!!!, it is a for sure keeper in my regimen.

However, I don't quite feel the same about the two butters I've ordered along with the shampoo bar...now, a while back I won a product from the fabulous ChocolateOrchid check her out here http://chocolateorchid.blogspot.com/  which was the afroveda totally twisted ginger almond butter ....They say :

This old-fashion recipe blends Almond butter with Ayurvedic Herbal Blend for maximum softness, shine, manageability an growth. It provides a soft, gentle hold for styles like braids, twists, straw sets, and more. Also provides curl definition in naturally curly hair while moisturizing and softening hair at the same time.

Iingredients :

Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Rice Milk, Water, Almond Oil, Sunflower Oil, Ashwagandha Powder, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Nettle, Herbal Oil Complex, Jojoba Oil, Neem Oil, Glyceryl Stearate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol (and)Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol& love. Essential oil blend of Ginger & Lime.

I say:  Smells great....didnt have enough hold alone for the way I wear my hair ( wash n gos) ... did have curl definition...not enough moisture to be used alone....did great on my youngest daughters hair which is 3a/3b

Now on to the two butters I've recently purchased :

Shea Alma Whipped Butter Cream:

AfroVeda Shea-Alma Whipped Butter Cream was formulated to provide much needed moisture to dry frizzy hair. This cream is velvety soft and has the consistency of whipped parfait! Thanks to it's high content of unrefined Shea Butter, this cream thoroughly regenerates dry hair length, reinforcing their resistance and elasticity. It restores radiance, energy and health to dry and very dry hair.

And the scent? Frankincense & Myrrh.

Ingredients:

Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Rice Milk,Water, Shea Butter, Sesame Oil, Ashwagandha Powder, Nettle, Herbal Oil Complex, Castor Oil, Almond Oil, Neem Oil, Glyceryl Stearate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol (and)Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol, and love.

I say:

NOT !!!!....I do not like this product for my hair....First , lets talk scent...I can not stand it, its waaaaay to strong, it gave me a horrible  headache along with being nauseous.  I tryed adding just a few drops of peppermint EO ( one of my favorites) and to no avail, the scent was still strong and horrible.  As for my hair it made my hair very frizzy, on the second day my hair was really dry ( that's not good) .  I was so disappointed and super surprised.  Shortly , after this experience I realized my hair can not use moisturizers with water in them ( this is what caused the frizzes)  Aloe juice is great in my hair and can also act as an moisturizer for hair care products...but, with water in the products no good for me !  ...Now I may be able to deal with one or the other which would be frizzy or dry ...but this product did both to my hair .....That is not good !!!! , I also tryed this very same product in my youngest daughters hair who is also natural 3a/3b and it did the very same , but with her it did moisturize pretty good ...but, made it super frizzy.  So, needles to say I will not be using this product on my hair again. Now on to ...

CocoaLatte Moisture Mask...

They say ...,

The CocoLatte Moisture Mask is delicious! This rich moisturizing butter will leave your tresses feeling fabulous! Herbs of nettle and bhringaraj, combined with avocado butter and jojoba oil and unrefined Shea butter make this whipped butter a must have. Bye Bye dry hair!

Ingredients...

Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Rice Milk, Water, Avocado Oil, Coconut Oil, Ashwahandha Powder, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Nettle, Herbal Oil Complex, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Neem Oil, Glyceryl Stearate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol (and)Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol, and love. The natural aroma of raw she butter provides the perfect "cocoa scent"!!

I say...

The scent is much nicer then the Shea alma, I can deal with this scent.  The moisture from this product for my hair was much better...it did keep my hair moisturized much better then Shea alma.....but, guess what ?.....it also made my hair super frizzy ...Now, I know its the water content in these two products in which does not agree with my hair.....Unfortunately, I will not purchase this product because of the frizzes it gave to my hair...thankfully this was a free trail size , in which cost me nothing.  Now for the final product...

Pure Whipped Hair Gelly....

They say....

Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Rice Milk, Water, Avocado Oil, Coconut Oil, Ashwahandha Powder, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Nettle, Herbal Oil Complex, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, Neem Oil, Glyceryl Stearate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol (and)Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol, and love. The natural aroma of raw she butter provides the perfect "cocoa scent"!!

Ingredients....

Aloe Vera Gel, Coconut Oil, Almond Oil, Herbal Oil Complex, Vanilla essential oil and love.

I say....

I love this Gelly !  Its moisturizing....nice scent, like vanilla cake batter.  annnnd....it does not cause the frizzes or shrinkage !  As you know I am still in love with my Uncle funkys daughter " curly magic".  Would I repurchase this product ....yes ! indeed ....This product would be a back up for my " Curly Magic" .....plus the whipped Gelly by afroveda is much cheaper...but, I haven't given up on " Curly Magic"  I truly love them both !!!!

http://afroveda.com/

I am still using my Jane Carters ' Nourish & Shine" and from time to time twist & lock.  But, I do have a new herb infused butter/ oil recipe with some really yummy herbs and EO'S  in the works that may provide the moisture, ...I'm looking for....I will keep you ladies posted.

                                                                                                            ENJOY!!!

(shea amla) "NOT!!!" lol :-) I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that can't stand the smell of that product. I ended up throwing it out.

I'm glad that you found your shampoo staple. I'm thinking of trying the Cleansing, Clarifying and Balance Shampoo made by Lisa Akbari. The pH is 4.5-5.5 but I won't order it until I run out of the other shampoos I have in my closet.

I actually get the same results when I use the Cocolatte MM, but when I want my afro to have extra attitude plus moisture, I use it and rock the frizzies as they come! I'm learning to embrace them :-D

@ NaturalNubian...You know I'm with you on embracing the frizzes, I actually feel the same (sometimes) ...but, there are times when I really dont want frizzes , so I have to use something else in place of that.

As for the shea alma...I just can not work with this product simply be cause for my hair...it doesnt provide the moisture I like...plus the frizzes ( when not wanted)

Great point ! learning to embrace those frizzes....but, with some moisture ....I'm with you ! (smiles)

Take care.

I've been lurking a lot but I wanted to take a few min and comments. Last summer, I was on an afroveda kick and really enjoyed her products especially the coco-latte.
When I did twists with shea-amla and cocolatte..wOW!!!!
amazing
since she added the rice milk and other stuff, it doesn't work for me and it goes bad on me in weeks..then I also tried her seven line and asked her if it had citrus oils and she said no. Iam allergic to citrus oils so to my biggest surprise, they had Lots of citrus oils and I was so disappointed. anyways, all this to say that I decided to take my business elsewhere and still wish her the best

@ Amina....wow ! thanks so much for commenting. And, thanks for your honesty.

I am with you ...her butters just are not working for my hair...I wish her nothing less then the best as well.

Take care and again thanks so much for stopping by.

Oh man, I am cracking up! Remember my post about the scent. I couldn't take it either. Glad you liked the gelly though, the scent is nice. Do you think you prefer sweet scents over musky, I know I do.

Hello, I have a question. Does AfroVeda's Pure Whipped Hair Gel contain Jojoba oil? The reason why I ask is because I'm extremely allergic to jojoba. I noticed that you have two set of ingredients listed on your blog for the Pure Whipped Hair Gelly. One has Jojoba and the other does not. I visited the Afroveda and it reads: Aloe Vera Gel, Coconut Oil, Almond Oil, Herbal Oil Complex, Vanilla essential oil and love.

I apologize for being so "anal". I'm just having a hard time finding daily styling products because of my allergies. If you could suggest any products(besides Kinky Curly Custard) that don't contain jojoba, soy or pollen, I'd appreciate it. Thank you

@Anonymous...I don't see jojoba oil,soy or pollen listed here in the ingredients for the afroveda pur whipped jelly...what I have listed on my jar is what they have listed on their site as well.

Sorry to hear that your having a hard time w/ products due to your allergies. Take a look at Qhemet Biologics products here is the link http://www.qhemetbiologics.com/

You can contact the maker of these products to make sure their products does not contain the ingredients that you can not use....lastly, on my page there is a ton of natural hair product companies just look on the side under title "natural hair lines & products"

Hope this helps...thanks for stopping by , take care.
