It is a must read...it gives more reasons to stay clear of hair straighters, if for nothing else ...health reasons. A variety of hair-straightening products used in professional salons can expose both hairdressers and their customers to formaldehyde, an independent study finds. And the chemical can be really irritating, literally.

You might recall that the Food and Drug Administration's has been after the maker Brazilian Blowout, one such product, as Shots has reported. Basically, Brazilian Blowout has been promoted as an alternative to harsh hair straighteners containing, but the government thinks it contains enough formaldehyde that it needs to slap on a warning label.

Brazilian Blowout published a statement on its website earlier this fall, contesting the FDA analysis. "It is important to understand that this relates to the measure of potential formaldehyde released at a level that never occurs in a real world application," the company says.

So, an independent team took the debate directly to the hair salon. Their findings were published in November's issue of the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Hygiene.

ChemRisk, a consulting firm that specializes in health and environmental risk assessment, carried out the study, for which it received no external funding.

The results show that three professional hair-smoothing treatments labeled "formaldehyde free" can produce the cancer-causing chemical at concentrations above the occupational exposure limits set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

I hope every one is well :)). I saw this post over at Naturally Curly. com. And Thought it was worth sharing, especially because I have used this method in the past and it wasn't bad. Now that the colder season's are quickly approaching, some of us choose to rule out shampooing our hair during this time because the the dryness shampoo may cause. Then there may be those Naturals who are strictly co-washers and wash 1x monthly ( like myself). Then you have those who must shampoo there hair...no matter what.

~ 7 THINGS ABOUT ME ~...

Hello Ladies!

This morning I will be doing a "7 things about me" tag , passed on to me from the fabulous Tinuke over @ Coilybella http://www.coilybella.com/ What I must do is tell 7 things about myself that you my fabulous readers may not know about me.

So here it goes:

1. I am a Muslim women. Who strives to please her lord, daily. I cover my hair each and every time I leave my home with the hijab ( head covering). I was not born into the religion of Al-Islaam, in fact I was raised baptist.
I toke my Shahadah ( Testification of Faith) about 7-8 years ago. And have not looked back since, with no plans on doing so.

2. I am a huuuuuge fan of dreads . And have a strong desire to grow them one day soon. Inshaa Allaah ( godwilling)

3. I am advocate for the education of children. If I could and maybe one day I will be able to. I would open up my home to children who may not have a safe , quiet place to study, do homework, and read and to come and excel!

4. I am a cleaning and neatness fanatic. I can not live around filth and clutter.

5. I love to read, and learn to speak Arabic, fluently.

6. I am seriously afraid of heights....it's serious y'all (lol)

7. I never had my Drivers license. But, have driven and know how to drive. And in 2 weeks I go take my written test...yay!!

~ ME , CHANGES, AND EXCITEMENT ~

Hey there Fellow Fabulous Naturals!

I has everyone been since my last post here @AuNaturale. I hope Everyone is doing well. I do apologize for the inconsistency as to posting here , but as I've shared before I was going to not be posting as much. Just from time to time when I feel I have something hair related to share, sales, and product reviews.

As for my hair , I am very happy with the progress it's making. At on point I was considering allowing my hair to grow. But, I quickly realized how much I like shorter hair on me , how it compliments me and my style better, and how easy it is to handle. So I then immediately, cut the sides and back shorter , while leaving the top and front . I really like this look on me. I am still doing my nightly GHE
(Green House Effect) routine with herb infused EVOO, with fabulous results. I am still using the best DC ever used thus far the "luscious locks hair mask" by Karen's Body Beautiful. I plan to give a few more of her products a go, very soon. Stay tuned for reviews on those. I am still using and very pleased with my gel mixture with the base being Eco Styler gel "pink" with the added ingredients of Aloe Vera, Olive oil, and jojoba oil. My Qhemet Biologics Moringa Tree conditioning ghee as my leave in, And my aloe Vera and water spritz. Enjoying each phase of this journey.

As for other things in my life. There has been lots of GREAT! changes in my life. One's That I am very...very...very..excited about. So good... I cant stop smiling as I type this post. Change is good , ladies!. Sometimes, it takes a minute, but when it's your time...it's your time. And, When you feel it from your head to very bottom of your toes. It's one worth smiling about!. Let's just say I am very happy , and beginning to know and actually feel myself worth....It's a wonderful day in the neighborhood ! (LOL)

My health is good!..I am exercising daily. Sometimes I run...sometimes I walk...Sometimes I workout with a video. But, which ever I chose that day, the point is to keep it moving. It's good for the body, mind and soul...It really is. Iam truly grateful for where Allaah has brought me , and what he has brought me out of....which was darkness. There is simply to much to live for...just to much life....no room for darkness.

My children are exceling , healthy, happy and well !. My oldest Daughter is focused, and college bound. Sending of for her college info,doing well in school taking college prep courses... She is 14 , there are many other vices she could be mixed up in at her age , boys, drugs, skipping school, running away, being disregardful, pregnant, this list could go on and on (lol). But, she is just the very oposite. Shes is thinking of becoming a Doctor, a Muslim one at that. Shes is still deciding exactly which type of doctor she wants to become, but she an idea.

My middle daughter, has made the merit role and was student of the month!. She is a veeery hard worker, and very focused. She shared her goals with me before the beginning of the school year and, thus far she has reached those goals and beyond! , a possible lawyer here, or a teacher.

My youngest daughter...is doing very well. She has a vast vocabulary for her age of 6, very bright young lady. Another doctor here.

And My boys...My oldest son, made star student out of his entire grade , they pick one girl and one boy. Very bright very interested in science and animals. Thinking of becoming an veterinarian. My youngest son is in 4th grade and reading on a 8th grade reading level. And he made merit roll! He is thinking of becoming a judge.

All I ask is for my children to have direction and goals....AT ALL TIMES. So you see there is soooo much for me to be excited about in my life. That it takes up all the room..and leaves no room for darkness.

And Hello to all of my non -Muslims who stop by AuNaturale from time to time :))

Today's post is a bit different from my usual type of postings. Today's post is on a subject that is very near and dear to my heart.....Islaam. I gave doing this post much thought because as stated this is not what AuNaturale it's self is based on. But, this is a part of me zainab1. As many of you know That I am a practicing Muslim and have been for 8 years, Alhamdulillah! ( praise be to Allaah).

Below I will share a link on a great lecture which gives a really good explanation as to what Islaam is and What Islaam is about . I felt this to be quite important to share , because many...many...many individuals receive their information about Islaam from poor outlets,. The media, people who are not Muslims and have a poor understanding about Islam based off of what they've heard or read.

~ BREAST CANCER AWARENESS ~....

Hello Ladies!

As many of you may be aware October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Last month or so I shared my story here http://aunaturale007.blogspot.com/2010/10/breast-cancer-awarness.html which lead me to being a advocate for all types of cancer, especially cancers that affect women. Cancer of all types has effected me in my 41 years of living , as you will read by clicking the link above. I can not express enough the importance of breast cancer awareness. As stated once before breast cancer awareness is to be every single month and every day of the year, for the rest of our lives, god willing. As long as my lord allows I will continue to support breast cancer awareness in any way my creator allows. Ladies, if your at the age to get mammograms and self exams please do your self a huge favor and do so, immediately.

If you haven't reached that age or haven't any health concerns which will prompt you to start mammograms early , like I had to ( per my doctor). Please...please...please do your self exams regularly. REMEMBER EARLY DETECTION IS KEY, AND SAVES LIVES! Below I will share a bit on Breast cancer, as well as post the link for you ladies to view for yourselves.

I just had to....just had to give you guys a quick first impression of Karen's body beautiful "Luscious locks hair mask". Laaadies , let me tell you this stuff here is the truth indeed! (like no other I have used yet!!!!)

First, let me tell you as I was ordering this little number I was twitching in my seat as I placed my order . This has a pretty hefty price @ $25.00 dollars. BUT, IT IS WORTH EVERY BROWN PENNY I SAVED (lol). The only down side is that ordering from her site it's self takes a minute to receive I wasn't pleased about that at all. I feel if I'am spending 25.00 on a product I do not want to wait 5 days for it to ship. But, I must say once it did I received it the very next day, and I have never received a product the next day after shipping, so that was a pleasant surprise.

There are other places in which you can order the very same conditioner, I know curl mart carries it. The reason why normally I buy directly from the maker of the product is for freshness. Plus she has a few shipping options on her site ( Karen body beautiful) and one of them I believe is shipping for $ 2.95 , curl mart's shipping is $ 8.00 or close to it.

Enough of that.... lets get onto my first impression:

Conditioning doesn't get deeper than this because everything you need for your hair is in this jar. Detangle, soften, strengthen, grow. Saturate your strands with this rich blend of herbs like shikakai and rosemary which are known to promote hair growth, arnica and nettle to strengthen your hair follicles and aloe for much needed moisture. It is called Luscious Locks for a reason.

INGREDIENTS:

I SAY:

I am so excited about this conditioner...it is FABULOUS!. The very minute I applied this conditioner I was amazed as to how much slip it had. My hair was like silk, my curls was ...popping and this was just from application. I sat under my steamer for 20 minutes and an additional 15 minutes out of the steamer. Ladies, Once I rinsed the conditioner out of my hair...OMG....LIKE BUTTER !. Silk paradise, my hair was and still is so soft that my hair is literally slipping out of my freaking fingers.

Let me add that normally I add honey,Aloe Vera juice and a bit of EVOO to my DC's . But, because I wanted the full effect of this product raw, I did not add anything. It test at a PH of 7 , which isn't bad at all . It does not have a scent , it's consistency is creamy, but just not a thick creme. My hair is suuuper moisturized....suuuuper soft, and it has a nice shine. I must repeat this..... my hair is so soft right now, I can not keep my hands out of my hair (lol) I am in shock. I keep looking at the jar like what the hell is in this (lol).

Will I purchase this product again, ....YES INDEED!. This is my now holy grail DC and I have tried a few , those who follow me know I have raved about a few different DC's from different lines. But, NONE of those compares to this DC. I have found my holy grail DC, and really plan to look no further. I am very pleased with this DC, and I must have this in my closet at all times. I plan to reorder again, but the bigger size so that I always have it in my home. YES....it's that good ( to me anyway):0)

Now that I know how fabulous this product is I don't mind waiting 5 days for it to ship. Just as long as I have some in my possession before hand (lol). I do plan on trying the rest of her line with the exception of her shampoos and shampooo bars. She has a no- poo coming out as well as a new butter called "super duper butter " or something to that effect. I can't wait to try that. Thus far Qhemet Biologics and Karen's body beautiful are my go to products. The "Curls" line of conditioners are following closing behind :0)

Hello Fabulous Fellow Naturals!

I just wanted to do a quick post on my New Arrival. I have finally taken the plunge and purchased the Karens body Beautiful" Luscious Locks Hair Mask" . Yeap I just had to see for myself what all the rave was about , not to mention I believe I may be a bit of a conditioner PJ (lol). At the hefty price of $25.00 bucks I hope I am pleased.

Once I've tried this conditioner a few times I will be sure to report back to you ladies, my findings. ~ONE SERIOUS COMBINATION~....

Hey there Fabulous Fellow Naturals!

I hope everyone is doing well since my last visit here. Today I bring a serious "DIY" combo. I've been using this combo for sometime now, After reading a post from the fabulous Chocolate Orchid which you can Find here http://chocolateorchid.blogspot.com/ be sure to check her out :0). Where she shared a DIY she came up with and how pleased she was with her results. So I thought great idea Why not share my latest DIYcombo that I adore with my AuNaturale readers.

After using my kiss my face upper management gel ( which I do love) but the problem with that gel was I wasn't getting 2nd or 3rd day hair. I heard many great things about Eco styler gel "pink" so I went ahead and gave it a go ( not to mention It's super cheap and I can get it here on the ground). One problem with this gel is that the ingredients are not natural , where as the ingredients in the Upper management were waaay better. So here is where my experimenting with added ingredients came into play. I thought to myself I will add a few of my favorite products to the gel in hopes of making it better and healthier for my hair.

Ladies, I am soooooo glad I did, I haven't looked back since...seriously. I have honestly found my staple gel with no desire to look any further for another. So Here is what I add to my Eco styler 'pink"

1 oz of gel ( depending on how large of a batch you will be making)
2 Tablespoons of Aloe juice
2 teaspoons of jojoba oil
2 teaspoons of Castor oil
2-3 drops of peppermint EO (or EO of choice)

Remember , You can modify this to your liking . This one works WONDERS for my curls. This holds my curls for 2-3 days, if not more. Gives me shiny curls , well defined, great clumping, my hair has yet to feel dry or brittle after using this combo. Everything that I love and look for in a gel this has once I add my added ingredients.

If you look closely , some of you may notice its very similar to the leave- in mixture that Kim on YouTube uses. At one time I used her combo but with conditioner instead of gel and had great results ( I have since moved on from this conditioner recipe I've found a leave-in conditioner from Qhemet Biologics That I love even more ). Since I loved this combo with the conditioner I thought I would love it just as well but with gel. And boy was I right...I plan to look no further!

Now on too todays post. I found an article on "Guar" I've seen this word in ingredient list on a few products. So when I came across this article I was pleased in now knowing a bit about "Guar". Below I will share some of what the article says along with the link:

I must say I have just used it as a leave-in ( which I love) and a refresher ( love that as well). I do plan to try it as a deep conditioner in which they advertise on their site, just to put it to the test ( stay tuned for the results). The scent is light and pleasant. It's like a thin creamy consistency . Veeery moisturizing, and leaves my hair very soft, with a non greasy feeling. And also helps in defining my curls. From my experience only a little is needed. I must say ladies I really...really like this product. Will I repurchase this product...yes indeed!

For those ladies who have not tried this line I highly recommend , giving it a try. But, remember everyone's hair is different. I have been using QB since my very first BC and each and every time I stray to use another product line. I alllways find myself right back to QB!.

~I'M BACK!.....PLUS A QUICK UPDATE~

Hello ladies!

I hope everyone has been well since my last post. As for myself all is well I had a great Ramadan. Which was exactly what I needed :)).

While away , I realized that I ( once again ) may be getting a little bored with the whole blogging thing. It's great to do from time to time. I think I much enjoy reading other natural hair blogs , rather than posting on my own (lol) So my plans here on out is to cut back on my posting. I will continue to post, but not as often as before my break. I'm just at a different place in my life right now, and my interest has since shifted a bit. Don't get me wrong I am still on and enjoying every minute of my Natural hair Journey.

I have also started running daily, and have been quite serious about it. I have lost 12 pounds thus far...I am so excited about that. I feel great when I run, the air...nature..I love it!. In addition, to that I have totally cut out sugar...no more soda's...no more cakes, cookies and candy. I feel so much better without the use of sugar. I was such a sugar buff, I had to have my sodas, and cookies, and cakes. And, with all of that came....WEIGHT!. Now, when I get those cravings I reach for fresh fruit instead.

I have also made the decision to put my children back into the school system this year. After being homeschooled for 3 years. As some of you ladies know I am very ...very...very involved my my children's Education in each and every way. For a while I had been scouting out a particular school in my area in which I wanted to have them attend. I believe it's time..... they are older now, I feel confident in where they are in their studies. I applied and thankfully all 5 of them were accepted....They are excited , just as I am. They will continue to have religious studies at home. I will continue to be fully involved as I always have been. I plan to be a part of the PTA, along with any and all parent involvement that the school may offer.

It's now my turn...... I have decided to go back to school ! ( yay!) I am sooooo excited! Although , I am not completely sure which field I want to go in. I have however narrowed down my choices to either, Early childhood development...medical field... or social work. But one thing is for certain ...I want to be in a field in which I am helping people. I am a people person, and that's where I want to be. I hope to be in school myself at least by the end of the year, no later but hopefully before ( godwilling). I will be sure to keep you guys posted.

I am waiting a bit , simply because it's been a few years since, My 3 middle children have been in the school system, and the very first time for my youngest ( 6 yr old). I want to make sure they are adapting well, and are well on their way to a great and successful school year ( in which I'm sure they will do well).

NOW ONTO MY UPDATE ON THE GREEN HOUSE EFFECT METHOD:

Let me just tell you ladies, I started my own personal challenge using this method on July 23, 2011 and plan to complete it on October 23, 2011. Since staring this method I have seen great progress. My hair has been growing...my hair is always well hydrated ...and the ends of hair has never been smoother, No split ends , what so ever.

I am in love with this method. A lot of ladies compare this method to bagging, my hair has never felt this great when I bagged....OK! (lol). Once this challenge is over , I plan to continue with this method making it a permanent part of my regimen. If you haven't looked into the green house effect I highly recommend you do so. I don't even feel That I have to steam as often, since incorporating this method into my regimen ( I do still steam once a week) but I must say its not , a total must that I do so. I do make sure to do light protein treatments bi-weekly to make sure I have that moisture protein balance, and its working ....WONDERFULLY!

~ONE OF MY FAVORITE TIMES OF THE YEAR~....

Hi Ladies!

Fast approaching is the blessed month of Ramadan. Which is one of the most important times of the year for any and all Muslims far and near. This years Ramadan could possibly be arriving anywhere from July 31- to the first week in August. During this time Muslims will be fasting, reflecting, giving lots of charity, worshipping, plus lots more. The month of Ramadan is a holy month.

I always get excited as lot's of Muslims do young and old during this time of the year. Simply because of it's importance. There is a lot of reflecting, getting closer to Allaah asking for his mercy and forgiveness, and quran reading. Although, I will be unable to fast due to health issues.. I will most certainly be doing plenty of reflecting & worshipping.

Because of that I am commanded to feed people, neighbors , family, friends , strangers, in any way possible. I usually make extra meals during that time to give to other people. Along with that it is also my duty , being the matriarch of my family to ensure that my husband and children get their proper meals during this time at there required times , suhoor ( early morning meal before sunrise) and Iftar ( dinner meal, after sunset). There are only two ( 2) meals a day for the month of Ramadan. We are to obstain from any eating, drinking , sexual intercourse, etc during the day. Unless you are a pregnant women, a nursing mother , having menstrual's, have legitimate health issues, on medication of some type you are then excused. However in some of these cases you must make up your fast at a later date and time.

Because of preparing for this I will not be posting for the entire month of Ramadan and this will be last post. Just trying to stay spiritually in tune, and not focus on much of anything else outside of worship. and AuNaturale falls under that catorgy. Godwilling , I shall return to posting once Ramadan has ended. Until, feel free to stop by and Enjoy. Below I will post more on this blessed month :

Achieving Taqwa ( like to have a conscience): is one of the most important wisdom of fasting. Fasting brings on Taqwa as it lessens the desire of the stomach and mutes the sexual appetite. Whoever fasts frequently would overcome these two desires more easily. This deter against committing abominations and sins and assist in controlling life leading to Taqwa.

Strengthening willpower and acquiring patience: The Prophet sallallahu alayhe wa sallam called Ramadan the month of patience as it increases one's will power to control his desire and the selfishness of his soul. This training allows him to be strong in following Allah's commands. The most important being to carry the Message and propel it forward. The person trains himself to be patient in obeying Allah by stopping at the limits set by Allah both by way of action and abstention. Allah said: "These are the limits set by Allah, so approach them not." (Al-Baqarah 2:187)

Fasting is pure worship: The fact that he is abstaining from food and drink both in public and in secret shows his honest faith and strong love of Allah, and his knowledge and feeling that Allah is all-knowing of everything. For this reason Allah has made the reward for fasting greater than for any other type of worship. Allah said in the hadith Qudsi: "Every deed of the son of Adam will be multiplied [in rewards], the good deed by ten of its like, up to seven hundreds, up to whatever Allah wills, except fasting, it is for Me and I will reward it. He abandons his desire and his food for My sake.." (Related by Muslim) lbn al-Qayyim said: "...And people may see that a person is not eating in front of them, but the fact that he is really abandoning his food and his desire for the sake of God is a thing that nobody can find out about, and that is the essence of fasting."

Relieving Muslims from life's distractions: Eating, drinking, and socializing all distract a person and weaken ties with Allah. It is by the Mercy of Allah that Muslims are ordered to fast so as not to be bothered by the intrusion of these activities. Nor by the thought about them nor the anticipation for them when devoting themselves to the all types of worship Either reading the Qur'an, offering additional prayer or making I'tikaf. For this reason the Prophet sallallahu alayhe wa sallam said: "Fasting is a shield, and a secure fortress against Hell fire"

Acquiring strength and endurance:It has been discovered that depriving the body of food for a period of time helps its defense and endurance mechanism. This in turn this protects the body from certain diseases.

Abstaining from vain talk: Sins decrease the reward of fasting although they do not annul it. The Prophet sallallahu alayhe wa sallam said: "Fasting is not [only] abstaining from eating and drinking, but abstaining from vain and obscene talk, so if someone insulted you or wronged you say: I am fasting." (Related by al-Hakim) and he also said: 'Whoever does not abandon lying, then Allah does not need him to abandon his food and drink." (Related by al-Bukhari).

~FIRST IMPRESSION OF THE GREEN HOUSE EFFECT & 3 MONTH CHALLENGE....

Hello ladies!

I just wanted to do a quick post on my first impression on the green house effects. I have had great results with this method , thus far. In fact I have the green house effect on my hair as I am typing this post. The results from my previous application were, soft, shiny and very hydrated curls. I simply wet/ damped my hair and applied my herb infused EVOO to my hair only not my scalp. I then placed a plastic shower cap over my damp hair, over that I placed a scarf, over that I placed my satin bonnet. I did this for the entire day and night, its said to do so over night ( I plan to try it both ways to compare the difference). When I woke up the next morning I did not wash or rinse the oil out of my hair I proceeded to style, and go.

I am very careful not to use to much oil, ( I tend to be heavy handed) because I am not into oily hair, not to mention I cover my hair upon going out with a hijab( headcover) and I do not wish to mess any of my hijab's up due to excessive oil on my hair. To my surprise the oil absorbed very well into my hair and my hair wasn't oily at all.

For today's method I simply reactivated the oil that was already in my hair , NOT APPLYING MORE OIL. This is very important not to do, this is where overly oiled hair could come into play. I simply damped my already oiled hair from two days before, and followed the other steps, covering with a plastic cap, then scarf, then bonnet.

Its said you can rinse , CO-wash or shampoo your hair as you see fit as long as its all natural cleansing products. When doing this again I plan to use different oils one by Qhemet Biologics and the other by hairveda, on seperate occasions. look out for those results.

I've decided to do a 3 month challenge using this method. Which will begin today until october 25, 2011. It's said you can do this method as many times you like throughout the week. The purpose of this method is to promote hair growth by creating a natural steamy environment that allows the natural oils from your scalp to come out. and is great for those who suffer from dry scalp.

Today I bring you a very video/tutorial on something called "the green house effect". Some of you may have heard of this method, but it's new to me and my first time hearing of this. After, watching the video, I found it quite interesting. And, I've decided to give it a try for a couple of months in which I plan to report back to you guys my thoughts and findings on this method. It seems to be very easy to do...it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to purchase the simple products used....and, it seems it can be quite beneficial.

It seems to be a little like bagging, but there are however some differences. Be sure to pay close attention to the very important difference between the two " Green house Effect" method and the " bagging" method. I am not going to go further into explaining this method. ~MY THOUGHTS ON ECO STYLER GEL..BLUE & PINK~....

I hope each of you had a wonderful and productive weekend!:)0. Today I bring you my final thoughts on the Eco Styler gel blue & Eco styler gel pink. I must say I have always been a huge fan of their gels, they have always treated me kindly. The ones I'm speaking about are the one with olive oil, and currently, the more recent ones blue & pink. So lets get started:

ECO STYLER BLUE:

They say:

*Adds volume and sheen to chemically treated hair.
* Ideal for sculptured or relaxed hair styles.
*Contains sunscreen for color treated hair.
* No flakes, No tack.
* Alcohol free.

Ingredients: ( first 5)

Water, Carbomer, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, PVP, Glycerin, Triethanolamine.

I say:

I do like this gel, just not enough hold for my hair. This little number is a blue colored gel ( go figure, lol). It states its geared toward color treated hair. A level 5 on their holding scale 1 (one) being soft hold, 10 being maxium hold. It test as pH OF 7. The scent...I don't know I can't put my finger on the smell. I wouldn't say it's a jump out of my seat wonderful scent, but it's tolarable. I could not get second day hair from this gel. which is a deal breaker in most cases for me. Because the ingredients are not that great I would much rather use a gel if the ingredients are not great less often, oppose to using a gel with not that great ingredients more often. But, I will say the price....super! at a 8 oz for $1.49. Will I buy this product again , I would not simply because it didn't have the hold my hair needs. But, its really not a bad gel at all.

ECO STYLER FIRM HOLD GEL PINK:

They say:

Eco styler firm hold gel identified by the pink color has the added benefit of anti- itch additives to minimize scalp irration. Ideal for waves and other stlyes that are worn to be untouched. This product contains glycerin to moisturize ensuring that the product will not cause flaking or leave hair hard or brittle.

Ingredients:

Water, Carbomer, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, PVP, Glycerin, Tea Tree (Melaleuca Alternifolia) Oil, Chamomile (Anthemis Nobilis) Extract, Calendula Officinalis Extract, Echinacea Angustifolia, Centella Asiatica, Triethanolamine, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate, Polysorbate 20, Tetrasodium EDTA, Fragrance, D&C Red No. 33.

I say:

I looooove this gel!. This gel is ..guess...pink. (lol). I will say that the ingredients are a bit better than those in the eco styler blue. This is the next best thing to my upper face management gel. It has a firm hold of 7 on their holding scale 1(one) being the softess hold and 10 being maxium hold. This little number plays great with other products, clumps my curls and makes them fat like no bodies business. I can get 2-3 day curls with this gel. Gives my hair shine. My hair is never hard to the touch ( a trick for that in the event, it happens with any gel, I just lossen my culrs, run my hands over my curls and it softens right up). It test as a pH of 7. I always use a leave -in ( after my experimenting with not using leave-ins to see their necessity, I concur they are necessary and definitly add to the added moisture in the hair) as with any gel I use. I feel it is necessary for the added moisture especially with using gels. I also, make a custard with this gel by simply adding some herb infused olive oil and a bit of Aloe Vera juice. I love the results from adding those two ingredients. The scent I will say I'm not that fond of, but it doesn't linger and is tolerable. Even better is the price...Again, $ 1.49 for a 8oz size...you can't beat that. Will I purchase this again....Most definitly , and even in the largest size. This is a great gel, and works great in my hair. Again, I do recommend using a leave in under this gel or any gel. The ingredients are not the best, but can be worked with. This gel gives great definition!

Hello Ladies!

I hope you are enjoying your weekend!:)0. Lately, I've been having a love hate relationship with my....dang computer ! One minute is great, and the very next its running...running slow...freezing ..all kinds of mess going on here (lol).

I believe it needs to be cleaned out . So, here is where you ladies come in. Do any of you ladies know of a trustworthy online site or store in which cleans out your computer without the added worry of them possibly adding some type of virus, etc to your computer , making things worse. I do have spy ware on my computer, and it works pretty good. But, something is going on with this pc. Even after I clean it out using the spyware I have, lately it continues to give me problems. I'm looking for something that can detect if something is on there, and will then remove it.

If so....please help (lol). Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !

A LITTLE SOMETHING ABOUT PH AND YOUR HAIR~

I hope everyone is well and enjoying their summer thus far:)). Today I bring you a post about pH balanced products for our hair via Chicoro a Fellow Fabulous Natural. This may very well be a reminder for many of the seasoned naturals, and may be a beginners course for the fabulous first time BC'd natural. Either, way I enjoyed reading her thoughts on pH, I hope you ladies enjoy it as well.

I must say I agree with her on everything she speaks about on this subject. Except I find that the pH of the products I use are just as important as the ingredients in the products. I am a stickler on my products being pH balanced, and have had great results doing so. Let's see what the fabulous Chicoro has to say about pH and our hair:
The "p" stands for potential and the "H" stands for hydrogen. The pH scale ranges from 0-14 Water is neutral , ans is around pH of 7. Below 7 makes a substance tend towards being acidic. Above 7 makes a substance tend towards being basic. Alkaline and basic are used interchangeably.

HAIR AND PH IN GENERAL

The pH of substances can affect your hair.

pH of 1 or less results in slight decrease in the swelling of the hair.
pH of 3-1 results in a slight increase in the swelling of the hair.
pH of 4-9 results in minimum increase in the swelling of the hair.
pH of above 10 results in a large increase in the swelling of the hair.

USING PH AS THE MAIN INDICATOR FOR PRODUCT SELECTION

The pH can be used to gather more information about a product. It should not be the only indicator that you use. What many people don't realize is that store brought products can be formulated using many chemicals. Many of these chemicals can be eye, skin, and tissue irritants. Once these chemicals brews are complete an ingredient is then placed into them to adjust the pH.

Just because something has a pH range between 5-7 doesn't automatically mean it's great for your hair. You should beaware of pH in products. I will say that adjusting the pH is a vital part of product formulation. Instead, of focusing on pH , focus on the types of ingredients in your products. A Potential issue created from a product is not likely to be the pH , but an ingredent in the product.

Heeey ladies!

Today I bring you a review on the curly hair solution"curl keeper". I received a sample of this product some time ago when ordering from curlmart. And boy am I happy I did.....I LOVE THIS STUFF!. This product is ....AWESOME. Let me share a bit more on this product:

THEY SAY:
Dryness causes frizziness and out-of-control hair. Curl Keeper enables you to become the master of those gorgeous frizz-free curls. Great for all hair types.

Curl Keeper is a water-based formula, which means you can use it everyday without product buildup.

INGREDIENTS:

DI Water, PVP/VA Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Laureth 23, Glycerin, DMDM Hydantoin, Fragrance, Polyquaternium 10.

I SAY:

This stuff here...IS THE TRUTH!, you here me (lol). It does everything it says it will do...reduce frizz, make my curls pop like crazy. Clumps together like no ones business. Makes my hair full , big and fluffy, just like I like it. It's suggested to simply re-wet your hair the day/ days after to reactive. This product is a lite , watery type product. The smell to me is pleasant , I have read other reviews where people don't care for the smell, but it doesn't bother me. I do not use this product alone, I use it as finisher, over the gel I am using that day.

As you can see from the ingredients list above, the ingredients aren't that nourishing. But, is tolerable for the way this product performs. It is however, protein , silicone and paraben free. And it test at a pH of 4 ...horray for "curl keeper!". Is this product a keeper, yes indeed! . In fact I plan to order more before, my sample is gone. ~5 WAYS TO GET WATER INTO YOUR HAIR!~...

Today I bring you another great tip, from Chicoro. One that many of our seasoned fabulous Naturals many already know, this may be just a reminder. not for get our newly fabulous naturals, who may not know of these very helpful tips on water retention for our natural hair. As we alllllllllll know water, is a must for natural hair, I have found the more water I use on my hair and in my products my hair seems to thrive...thrive ...thrive!. Below I will share a bit on what Chicoro says about ways to get water into our hair:

1. RINSE YOUR HAIR WITH VERY WARM WATER:

The easiest way to water into your hair is to saturate or rinse your hair with water. Warm water will penetrate your hair faster than colder water. But, do not use water that is to hot!

2. STEAM YOUR HAIR:

Another way to infuse your hair with water is to steam your hair. There are four methods or ways to steam your hair:

             A) Most Expensive- Buy a steamer. Steamers add a steady stream of warm, vaporized water to
                  the hair.

              B) Expensive- Purchase a hair dryer. Dryers use hot air and no water or moisture. You can wet
                    your hair and place a plastic cap over it and sit under the dryer. Or you can wet a towel under
                    hot running water, or heat a towel in the microwave. Put in on your wet hair and sit under the
                     dryer. Please be careful!

                C) Less Expensive- Purchase a heating cap. Wet your hair and place the cap on top.

                 D) Not Expensive- Wet a towel place it in the microwave to warm it up, Place the towel on your
                      Then place a plastic cap over the towel.

                  E) Cheap- Wet your hair and place plastic bag over your hair. Leave this on for 15 minutes or
                         over night.

3. Use water based moisturizer- Use a water based moisturizer in your hair. you can use this during the week , and you can also use this while placing a plastic cap on top.

4. Use Hygroscopic ingredients in your hair- Perform treatments on your hair by adding honey to your conditioners , amino acids or glycerin to your other products.

5. Use protective styling- To help in holding onto moisture longer. This will keep the hair moist and protected.

~WE MUST PROTECT OUR CHILDREN....NEIGHBORHOOD BULLYING MUST STOP~

Hello Ladies!

Today I bring forth an very important subject. That happens to near and dear to my heart. That is "NEIGHBORHOOD BULLYING". Bullying of all types are on the rise now, especially in our schools. But, you rarely hear of neighborhood bullying. My children are currently being bullied in our neighborhood. Immediately after I am done with this post my husband and I will be going to the police station to make our 3 rd police report , on children from the neighborhood in which we live. harassing my boys.

From there I plan to spend the entire day, two days, week, weeks, month or months researching this disgusting behavior to bring forth more awareness in neighborhood bullying, I will not take this lying down. I plan to use every breath in my body , until I am heard. It seems some adults think that this is common children like behavior...I am hear to tell "IT'S NOT".  These are my children, they are not action figures, they have feelings, and have the right to feel safe in there own neighborhood. They have the right to feel relaxed and free as they play outdoors , just as children should feel.

My husband and I have been to many childrens homes to speak to the parents, in most cases the parents will instruct them to no longer behave in that manor. These children don't even honor their parents wishes. And continue to do as they please...which is to harass my boys.

My boys were jumped a month or so ago, by 5 ...you heard me 5 other thugs ( yeap, that's what I called them.....common THUGS).  My boys are the ages of 12, and 9. Right here at our neighborhood " quote un quote "PLAYGROUND".  These thugs had the nerve to hold my 9 yr old back while the other 5 jump my 12 yr old, they then stole one of his sneakers, in which I sent him out with two, along with his watch. But, I must say My 12 yr old fought back, with every bone in his body.

This post is not to boast about how well behaved , smart and mannerable my children are.....But, damn it they are... that plus more. I am raising men, not punks. My boys are the type of boys who will run across the street to help our older neighbors with their bags, and will politely refuse anything offered to them in return for helping. They will politely say " We just wanted to help" .  You can see my boys ( not only my boys all of my 5 children girls included) on any given day picking up trash off of our front lawn, with out being told. When they take in our trash cans on trash day, they also take in our neighbors " just because". You will never hear them curse, wear their pants belong their butt, or see them grabbing their crotch as they talk . This is how they are being raised...to be men.... not punks.

My husband and I have since put them into boxing, ( including my 11 yr old daughter) , there they are learning discipline, restraint, more respect, and confidence in knowing they are NOT push overs...."WHAT SO EVER". And they love it! ( they will not however be taking this boking thing to far, just now its doing just what they need, confidence. They will not become pro's , just a little something for now)

Now, my husband and I have informed them they "MUST" defend themselves when at all necessary. But only when necessary, like if someone puts their hands on you. However the bullying in our neighbor hood has gotten totally out of control. One little thug had the nerve to tell my son he was going to put him into a coma, another time we came home and a kid ( I believe it was a kid because of its handwriting) came up to our pourch while we was not home and wrote " WE HATE YOU". There has been soooooo many incidents, it would take to long to type. My boys are tired of this nonsense now, as my husband and myself and are ready for an all out war. However I've explained to them we will settle this differently. The police will get tired of coming out to my home for complaints, they will do more about it. Because each time it happens I plan to call them out or go to the police station myself.

If your child is being bullied ANYWHERE, but particularly in your neighborhood, please do something about it. I implore you to not ignore it. The more awareness to this problem, the more it will be taken seriously.   parents, police, landlords,  ( been there too) and neighbors will be forced to realize this is NOT JUST KID BEHAVIOR, THAT THIS IS ONE STEP AWAY FROM CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR.

What Is Bullying?

Bullying is a form of aggressive behavior that is intentional, hurtful, (physical and psychological), and/or threatening and persistent (repeated). There is an imbalance of strength (power and dominance).
The above definition includes the following criteria that will help you determine if a student is being bullied.

What Does Bullying Look Like?

•Hitting, slapping, elbowing, shouldering (slamming someone with your shoulder)

•Shoving in a hurtful or embarrassing way

•Taking, stealing, damaging or defacing belongings or other property

Verbal Bullying :
•Name-calling

•Insulting remarks and put-downs

•Repeated teasing

•Racist remarks or other harassment

•Threats and intimidation

When and where does bulling occur:

In the United States, it increases for boys and girls during late elementary years, peaks during the middle school years, and decreases in high school.

Physical severity may decrease with age.

It is most likely to occur where there is no adult supervision, inadequate adult supervision, poor supervision, a lack of structure, and few or no anti-bullying rules; it is also more likely to occur where teachers and students accept bullying or are indifferent to it.

It occurs virtually everywhere: in homes, nursery schools, preschools, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, neighborhoods, churches, city parks, on the trip to and from school, on the streets, and in the workplace, for example. It occurs in large cities and small towns, large schools and small schools—and even one-room schools in other countries.

DID YOU KNOW:

3.7 million youth engage in bullying each year

3.2 million youth are victims of moderate or serious bullying each year

Bullying has been declared a violation of civil rights in some cases

160,000 students per day stay home from school because of bullying

Bullying creates a fearful environment that impacts learning. Approximately 14% of 8^th through 12^th graders and 22% of 4^th through 8^th graders surveyed reported that bullying diminished their ability to learn in school;

Bullying causes children to runaway

Bullying causes eating disorders

Bullying causes low self-esteem

Bullies grow up and often abuse their spouse, children and co-workers.

So, as you can see ladies as you can see bullying is very...very...very serious. I plan to make and pass out fliers in our neighborhoods in hopes of spreading awareness on neighborhood bullying. In trying to advocate for all of the children like my very own who are being bullied in their neighborhood.

Some may think, perhaps you should move. My husband and I have considered it. But, to be very honest I like it here its just the " children like thugs". The neighborhood is lovely, beautiful , well kept...just overall a very nice area. If in fact my husband and I decide to relocate, it will not be before I bring awareness to this problem , in hopes of helping the family who may move into my place.

Please...please...please spread the word. And, if you see any child being bullied in your neighborhood, even if its not your own. Please be a voice for that child , step in...help , and do not become a victim yourselves. Because bystanders who do not speak out are just as much a bully or being bullied by the bully.

~MY THOUGHTS ON QB's OLIVE AND HONEY HYDRATING BALM~....

I hope all of you fabulous ladies had a great weekend!:). During the Qhemet Biologics recent sale along with a few other items. I purchased a sample size of their "Olive & Honey Hydrating Balm". I have recently fell back in love with my Qhemet Biologics moisturizers, right now there doing it for me, to be quite honest I had never fallen out of love with them. I just stopped using their products momentarily, just to try other brands. And, as always found myself right back at their doorsteps (lol). So Here are my thoughts on the hydrating balm:

I SAY:

I really like this product!....it does just as it states, as with the Amla& Olive heavy creme. Having had used 3 products thus far from this line, I must say that their products live up to what they state on their site. I use this in conjunction with the Amla & Olive heavy cream, using the cream first then sealing with the Hydrating balm. Doing so ...my curls are seriously hydrated without feeling greasy, and are seriously, thick and well defined. This leaves my hair super soft, however this product does contains glycerin, just as the Amla & Olive, but it does not affect my hair. Perhaps, its because the glycerin is a few ingredients down on the list. But, thus far this is the only line that contains glycerin, and does not make my hair over the top frizzy. The consistency is thick, and the scent is pleasant. A little goes a long way, which I appreciate that, because that means it's not necessary to use a lot, and because of that the product should last longer. Will this be an added staple to my collection...YES INDEED!. My plans are to repurchase as soon as QB, reopens their store, god willing.

In this particular article they speak about the pros and con's of washing your hair with hot and or cold water, great read. Here is a bit of what was said:

Hot Water

PRO: Rinses Away Dirt and Oil

Hot water and steam naturally open the pores, which is great for exfoliating and removing the oil from your skin. If you have a very oily scalp, washing with hot water can be beneficial. Warm water allows the dirt and hair product that has accumulated on your scalp to escape the pores and be rinsed away. It’s especially important to cleanse your hair of all hair products for your next styling. Overall, warm water might be more beneficial for washing your hair.

CON: May Result in Overly Porous Hair

Aforementioned, hot water opens up the pores and the cuticle of your hair shaft. That being said, rinsing your hair with hot water too often can leave the hair overly porous, causing it to be dry and brittle. Unfortunately, hot water seems to be a double-edged sword. Just as hot water helps to rinse away oil and dirt, it also strips your hair of its natural oils. The sebaceous glands in your skin produce natural oils called “sebum” that are essential for your hair’s health. Sebum gives the hair shine and strength, both of which are vital for beautiful hair.

CON: Causes Frizz

Heat causes frizzy hair, and hot water is no exception. No matter what your hair type, the hair needs moisture to stay frizz free. Because hot water can strip the hair of natural oils, moisture escapes the hair shaft and results in frizz. If your hair is especially prone to frizz, you might want to turn off the hot water.

~STEAMING WITH BENTONITE CLAY~....

Hey there Fabulous Naturals!

I hope everyone had a fabulous , yet productive weekend:)). One of the many things I did this weekend was enjoy my wash day. Lately, I've been steaming twice a week, and I must say my hair as well myself are enjoying the results. However, this weekend I did something a bit different . One of the products I use on my hair at least once monthly is bentonite clay. Although , I am considering using it a bit more after the fabulous results I had using it under the steamer.

I pre-pooed my hair as I always do, allowed that to sit on my hair for a while. Rinsed and applied my bentonite clay mixed with Aloe Vera juice , a bit of water and olive oil. I use majority Aloe Vera juice in my bentonite clay mixtures to help in lowering the pH., and it does a wonderful job. After, applying that I sat under my steamer with the clay remaining on my head to aid in the conditioning process for about 20 minutes. After allowing my head to cool off a bit, I then proceeded with rinsing and co-washing, deep conditioning , etc. Let me tell you .....I love the results the clay gave me while sitting under the steamer. We all know that the clay aids in serious curl definition afterwards. But, this time my curls were beautiful ...different from using the clay and rinsing without the heat. And, super soft!. I believe this process is a keeper in my regimen. I am in love with the results!

I was reading this article on the porosity of hair over @ naturally curly.com I've read on this subject before, during a different time in my previous hair journey. But, for some reason re-visiting this topic is better than the first time. Here is a bit of what was said:

When it comes to porosity and its effects on curly hair styling, naturally curly consumers are well ahead of the curve. In the past few years, natural curlies have evolved home-grown styling techniques beyond those that only emphasize curl type to ones that include porosity and its impact on curly hair wearability.

Porosity – Its Highs and Lows

Porosity is all about water and how your hair absorbs it. All hair is porous, and curly hair is more porous than natural, uncolored straight hair.

Highly porous hair has a cuticle layer that is raised and open. The hair quickly absorbs moisture, but loses it just as fast. Very porous hair can absorb more than twice the amount of water and moisture than hair with normal or low porosity can. It loves rich, moisturizing conditioners that contain protein, and even takes to pure protein treatments well.

But the more porous your hair is, the more prone it is to lose tensile strength and to break when soaking wet. If oils, butters and silicone products are applied in the wrong order or amount, your hair can get weighed down from within and build up in the hair shaft make it bloated, limp and lifeless. With porous hair that’s relatively dry and lacks sufficient moisture in the shaft, when dewpoints rise, get ready for a frizz fest.

In hair with low porosity, the cuticle layer is more tightly closed. Hair is slower to absorb water and longer to release it, so low porosity hair holds moisture quite well. But with fewer surface openings for product to be absorbed into, build up on the hair’s surface can happen quickly. Too much conditioning and excessive stylers may coat the hair and rob it of its vitality and bounciness. Some styling products may even sit on your hair or create a white cast. And because there’s little margin for absorption on low porosity hair’s smooth surface, excessive or pure protein treatments may cause the crispy, straw-like feel of protein overload.

~REVISITING OLD PRODUCTS~.... MY OLE' FAITHFULS!

Hello there Fabulous Fellow Naturals!

First let me say....This girl is "SHARP" in this picture above. I love everything about this picture, and her style from top to bottom.

Now, That I've gotten that out (LOL), on to the topic at hand. I've been revisiting some of my old products ones that I swore by during my first Big Chop. My ole' faithfuls , I have always been a huuge fan of Vo5 strawberries & cream conditioner for co-washing.... Curls " Coconut Sublime Moisturizing Conditioner.....Qhemet Biologics "Amla & Heavy cream"......kiss my face "upper management" styling gel ...or Uncle funky's daughter " Curly Magic" and....Jane Carters " Nourish & Shine" ( only when needed, or when not using the Amla & olive heavy cream, both of them together is to much for my hair)

For what ever reason my ...MyHoneyChild Products, is doing less of the job it had been for my hair, It's just not doing it for me right now. I am beginning to think my hair gets bored just as I do, of using one product allllll the time ( or maybe that's what I'd like to think, because my doing so allows me to buy more products...lol). But, anywho I had to retire my honeychild for a bit, and resort back to my Ole' faithfuls.

The products mentioned above never lets me down ...no matter what!. Annnnd....it seems.... my hair is a lot smoother, and moisturized since going back to my Ole' faithfuls. The moisture level in my hair has jumped up a notch or two, which is always music to my ears. Even , for my baby girls hair ( which is in the 3b range) the Qhemet Biologics has been doing a much better job , lately at laying her cuticles down and making her hair smooth and urber moisturized...for days!

There has been an alarming amount of ladies who have done just that and to their shock have found that they are in fact Allergic to the hair put in their hair for braids, extension's, etc. Their symptoms range from a severe case of an itchy scalp, to sores in the form of burns from relaxers, sore with pus coming from them, baldness, swelling of the eyes, and even getting sick on the stomach.

It is said that Synthetic hair has a chemical film left on the hair during the manufacturing process. I have also read that the synthetic hair is coated with alkaline , which is a chemical found in many of our household cleaning products. I also read that some companies put a chemical preserver on the hair so that it doesn't get moldy.... Moldy seriously.....just the thought of that is sickening.

Know that this is not just with Synthetic hair, it's also the case with human hair as well. Ladies, please be super cautions when paying to have your hair braided or doing it yourself. I am not sure what is going on with the hair these days , but in my opinion it is NOT worth having health and scalp issues.

I've read there are ways to pre treat the hair before having it put into your hair. I did not bother to post that info here at AuNaturale, because in my opinion it's simply not worth the time and effort of the braids. I feel our health and the health of our hair and scalp is far more important that any so called way of pretreating hair that has been previously treated with a chemical film or coated with a substance found in our household items. And, lets not get started on the the fact it could be treated before hand to prevent "MOLD", this is crazy.

For all of the fabulous ladies out there who are rocking the Micro mini's, kinky twist, etc please beware and educate yourselves on exactly what your are putting into your hair. Way, the pros with the con's....stop and think...... is it really worth it.

~MY THOUGHTS ON GARNIER FRUCTIS FORTIFYING CONDITIONER....PURE CLEAN~....

Hey there ladies!

I've been on a co wash conditioner kick lately. Looking to try a few different conditioner's to co- wash with. I heard a few great reviews on the "Garnier Fructis Fortifying Conditioner" pure clean. So, I thought I'd give it a try not to mention is economy friendly, easy to find ( store brought) in most of your local drug stores , no shipping, and no wanting time for arrival. All of the pros I like about buying ANYTHING (lol). So, off I go to purchase this conditioner.

My thoughts:

The ingredients didn't seem to be that bad , I try very hard to stay away from parabens, harsh proteins (if any), sulfates, silicone's, and glycerin. From what I can tell from reading the ingredients on this product it didn't have those things in it. However, I did not like this conditioner....AT ALL. The smell is pleasant, the consistency is thick, the slip is AMAZING. But, after rinsing it seem to have left a film like feel on my hair...I DO NOT LIKE THAT. I can't put my finger on it, but I don't like how it made my hair feel after rinsing...it felt coated. So, I will not be using this product anymore, and have no intentions on buying it again.

Thankfully, I didn't pay to much for this product :)). Have any of you ladies tried this product , if so what are your thoughts on this product?

I hope everyone had a productive and fabulous weekend!:)). I would like to share with you ladies another very helpful and great tip from our friend the fabulous Chicoro. As you ladies know I am a huge fan of Chicoro, her tips have yet to let me down they continue to educate me while on my natural hair journey. Below I will share a bit of what she says in relation to...... "The relation of grease to water is the same as that of lubricating to moisturizing" :

Grease or water does not easily mix or bind with water. In cosmetic preparations or in hair products, grease and water are bound together to form a cream, with wax, guar, gum, or some other binder. A more scientific name for this type of substance is "emulsion" . Grease and oils, in general, do not add moisture to the hair. However, they do impact the moisture in our hair.

Oils and grease tend to be occlusive on hair, that means they form a seal over the hair strand or scalp. If you spray your hair with water , then place oil or some emulsion type of product over the hair strand, the impact is that the water in the hair strand will stay longer. The oil is not providing water or moisture to the hair. The oil is keeping the hair moist longer It works much like plastic seal over a bowl of food. The plastic keeps the food fresher longer. The oil is keeping the moisture in the hair longer. Oils can provide nutrients to the hair and scalp.

Lubricating and moisturizing are like grease and water they are two different processes , using two very different substances. Water or water based products add moisture to the hair. Oily, waxy, or greasy products add lubrication to the hair. Natural oils, silicones, Glycerin, are considered lubricants. Below is a quick reference chart . This is not an exhaustive list:

MOISTURE- WATER, WATER BASED SUBSTANCE:

Aloe Vera
Water Mixes
Aloe Vera Mixes

LUBRICANT-OIL, WAX, SILICONE BASED SUBSTANCE:

Pomades, waxes
Creams
oils, oily feeling silicones
Glycerin

Chicoro also adds "I am not a huge fan of Silicone's, but I will say you need both moisture and some kind of lubricant.

~LET'S PAMPER OURSELVES~........

Hello ladies!

Now that the weather is getting nice, tons of ladies are in full force for pedicures.....Cheer's for pedicures!!!!
I looove pedicures I do them year round , it is a MUST that my feet are always done and looking good. I am a stickler about that, From years of experience working in hair salons ( and lets not forget the help of beauty school) I learned how to do pedicures...just as if you've went to the nail salon. Along with a fabulous pedicure comes a good ole fashion foot soaking, and the best thing about this part is if you feel its not time to get an actually pedi. You can simply skip that part and solely focus on soaking and pampering your feet.....and what's even better than that is ...it can all be done in the comfort of your very own home!

One thing I really enjoy adding to my foot bath are Essential oils, while many EO's serve different purpose's. Find one that will suit your needs. Lavender & Peppermint are my favorites. You can use them separately one week using lavender EO the following week or two using peppermint EO. Or you can get super creative and mix them together. Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang oils are said to be favorites as well, along with tea tree Essential oil they all have great soothing effects and lets not forget Eucalyptus and lemon EO'S....all great stuff!

Simple and very easy recipe:

Water ( amount depending on the type of foot bather your using) enough to cover your ankles

2-5 drops of Lavender , peppermint EO ( or Essential Oil of choice)

1/2 cup of Epsom salt ( love that stuff)

Boil the water , allow it to cool down to your liking,
Add Lavender oil ( or oil of choice) along with the Epsom Salt
soak....relax and ...enjoy!

ANOTHER OPTION:

Following the very same steps, however this time skipping the Epsom Salt.

2-5 drops of peppermint
2 drops of Eucalyptus EO and 1 drop of lemon EO
Sit back and relax!

The very best part about DYI pedicures and foot baths are you know where your tools have been, and that they are clean and sanitized.

I found a few really great tips from naturally curly.com. On how to achieve frizz free hair, from time to time a little frizz actually doesn't bother me. I welcome frizz, depending on the look I'm going for that day. Then there are days in which I do not welcome frizz. A few of these tips may be simple reminders for some and first timer's for others. Here is a bit of what was said:

A Good Haircut is Key

Split ends are the beginning of frizz, so stop them before they start by getting your curls trimmed every 6-8 weeks. Don’t cut hair too short, since shrinkage can be a real problem in humidity.

Don’t Shampoo Every Day

Curly, kinky and wavy hair needs the natural oils from your scalp to reduce frizz. No more than four washes every week is good. For your off days, go the rinse and condition route.

Lots of Conditioner!

Moisturize = Happy Curls! Aѕ curls succumb easily tο dryness, regular conditioning іѕ crucial. Never skip thе conditioner, аnԁ avoid two-іn-one, shampoo/conditioners. Once уου аrе done shampooing, squeeze extra moisture frοm уουr tresses (never wring), thеn work уουr conditioner іn frοm root tο tip. Leave thе conditioner іn fοr at least two minutes before rinsing. Using a deep conditioner once a week can be a major hеlр іn combating frizz.

I had heard many great things about this line , taking into consideration that if my hair doesn't like it. I have 2 other naturals , and 1 texlaxed in my household so it will not go to waste. I was sure of that. Below I will list the products in which I purchased , along with the reviews on the ones that I feel I am ready to give a solid honest review. So, that's get started:

DAILY FIX:

They Say:

I really like this product. In my opinion it does just as stated above, it doesn't leave my hair feeling stripped. It has a minty scent ( which is not bad) My hair feels soft and clean after using. I like the fact that it is a gentle cleanser , and is able to remove build-up without me having to use a harsh shampoo. And, it's in a safe range with a   pH of 6.   I will say I only use this little number 1x monthly or so., due to the Hydrolyzed oat flour ( protein). This time around ( at least , right now) I am really into ....moisture...moisture.....moisture for my hair. With very little protein...very little.

Will I repurchase this and add it into my regimen....sure will!

CURL ASSURANCE SMOOTHING LOTION:

They Say:

a NEW super detangling leave-in that can help you moisturize and style your curls and coils. You only need a little to help you smooth out your hair. It can be used alone or can provide a great base for other styling products. It can also be used as a rinse-out or on dry hair to add moisture when needed or as a styling aid for twists & braids.

INGREDIENTS:

Ingredients: Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Vegetable Glycerin, Slippery Elm Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Panthenol, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance.

I Say:

This is ...the bomb! ( yeah I said it ) the bomb (LOL). The slip on this product is......AMAZING. The scent is pleasant and light. It has a wonderful pH OF 6. VEEERY moisturizing, again does just as stated. But, that dang darn glycerin...gets me every time. Now, I was fully aware that a lot of curljunkie products contain glycerin, with this one included. But I wanted to give it a go anyway. I really like this product, BUT my hair does not like glycerin.,.....at all. Using this left my hair with all mentioned above, but an added edition of frizz.....I don't like that. And, that is exactly what products with glycerin does to my hair....why....why....WHY! (lol)

Now, my oldest daughter 4/b/ 4c tightly coiled, thick hair.....STELLAR ...you hear me STELLAR! I mean this product just makes her hair soooooo moisturized for days, and easy to comb her hair like this a LOT.

Will I repurchase this for me ( 3b/3c hair)....No I will not. My daughter 4a/4b hair...yes indeed this is a sure keeper in her regimen. BTW, if the owner of this product reads this or anyone who works for this company...please consider making a product like this but glycerin free :))

CURLS IN A BOTTLE:

They say:

a lightweight liquid styling gel/serum with a light hold. Adds brilliant shine and helps to tame frizz! Curls in a Bottle(tm)! is the ultimate solution to maintain and define your curls every day.

: Ingredients: Water, Hydroethylcellulose, Agave Nectar, Propylene Glycol, Polysorbate 20, Matricaria Recuitita (Chamomile) Flower Water, PVP, Panthenol, PEG-8 Dimethicone*, Polyquaternium-10, PEG-8 Raspberriate**, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Fragrance. *Water soluble-rinses clean!, **Derived from Raspberry Oil.

I say:

Now as you can see this product is not 100% natural. And, it does contain a cone ( in which is water-soluble) so the cone doesn't bother me so much, because I know it will wash out.   I 'm still on the fence about this product. And still taking it through the mill, the pH on it is 6 which again, in safe pH range. Its said that this product is great for layering, over your gels in helping to reduce frizz, etc. But I do know at this stage in the game for my hair it's waaay to light to use alone. This product also has a pleasant scent. So, this is not a final...final review of this product. The verdict is still out.

So, there you have it my thoughts on a few products from the curl junkie line. A few things I can definitely say about this line would be:

Their product's has pleasant scents

pH balanced ( this very important in my regimen)

The bottles are a great size for the price ( at least the items I purchased)

~ FABULOUS CO- WASHER....~

Hello Fabulous Fellow Naturals!

I have been co -washing for quite some time now , finding that I prefer this method oppose to weekly shampooing my hair. During that time I have always used VO5 Moisturizing conditioners to do so, They are great to use for many reasons, price worthy,...easy excess...ingredients aren't that bad.

However, I haven't been super over the top happy with it's performance. I mean it's.......OK, it just seems that the moisturizing results could be more, Even with the added Aloe Juice I add when co- washing.
So here is where you ladies come in. If any of you ladies know of a super , great moisturizing co- washing conditioner that DOES NOT include the following:

FREE OF:

Glycerin
Protein ( if any at all one of the lighter proteins, like soy protein, etc)
Paraben
Silicone

Pretty much Natural or very close to it. This conditioner can be sold on-line or over the counter. It really doesn't matter. I just know that there are many other fabulous Co-washers out there , with super moisturizing properties. I just need a little help in finding them:))

So ladies....... do you know of any fabulous Co-Washing Conditioners. Do share :))

~I AM HAVING THE BEST HAIR DAYS WITH THIS PRODUCT...~

Hello ladies!

I hope everyone is well. I just wanted to do an quick..... on second thought type of update. On a product from the My HoneyChild product line, that I reviewed here http://aunaturale007.blogspot.com/2011/04/my-thoughts-on-myhoneychilds-buttery.html . I mentioned in my review how I adore this creme but thought it was a bit heavy for the warmer months......well, I have put my foot in my mouth (lol). As I am still in love with the honey hair creme from MyHoneyChild and continue to feel the same way about this little number as I did when I shared my final thoughts on it. But, I have since revisted the Buttery soy creme from the very same line. And, ladies let me tell you my hair is in sheer bliss ...I mean I have been having THE best hair days with this moisturizer. What made me revisit it and not only for the colder months was because I noticed the honey hair creme, had a tendency to leave my hair white ( just momentarily) oppose to applying the buttery soy, where as it sank right in my hair. Leaving it moisturized for daaaays, and super soft, with out any greasy feeling at all.

So, lately after my co-washing, I spray my hair with my Aloe herbal spritz, Buttery soy hair creme, tiny bit of kiss my face upper management hair gel, and maybe ( not all the time) I may apply curljunkies curls in a bottle as my finisher. These products are great together. BTW, notice I have had mentioned a leave-in conditioner this round, because I did not use one. But, as stated in my previous post, I am experminting to see the difference between with and without one. So, next week I plan to use a leave in to put my experminent to the test. I shall report back with my finding's :)). And, remember what works for my hair... very well may not work for others.

~ARE LEAVE IN CONDITIONERS.....REALLY NECESSARY...~

Hey there Fellow Fabulous Naturals!

I hope everyone had a great and productive weekend :)). Recently, I've was thinking about leave in conditioners and the necessity of using them. I have always used leave- in conditioners and to be totally honest out of the many I've used since being natural 3- 4 of them actually left an impression on me and my hair. ( below I will share the ones I'm speaking of ). I was thinking...... how necessary are they.... really, I know for sure that there are leave -ins that are much more moisturizing than others. Then there may be the argument that the leave-in is a protectant against the other products used on top of that.

I must say I really have not noticed a grand difference in using leave in conditioners in my hair. Let me add I have not given up on using them, until I do further experimenting with them in my hair. But, To be honest I often think it's just another product added to my hair, in which could cause product build up ( depending on the actually leave-in being used and it's ingredients) in which I really try to use only products with natural ingredients. Or another thought is perhaps I have yet to find that holy grail leave-in conditioner ( but I may have come very close still playing the first two listed below from curljunkie). Now, back to the ones I tried ( from like to dislike ):

CURL JUNKIE- Smoothing lotion- urber moisturizing, serious slip ( complete review coming soon this one and the CURL JUNKIE- beauti curls leave-in)

KINKY CURLY- Knot today ( using Kim from You Tube's method)

GIOVANNI - Direct leave in

HAIRVEDA- Whipped Creme ends hydration ( Pretty good , but because of the added glycerin I had to stop using it. But, stellar in my middle daughter's hair and ends of her hair)

OYIN HANDMADE- Hair dew ( I really do not like this in my hair....at all)

So, what do you ladies think....are leave-in conditioners a must.  Do you notice a difference in your hair with or without using one?

~OIL INFUSION FOR DANDRUFF OR DRY SCALP~

Hello ladies!

How I hope all is well with everyone:). As some of you ladies may know I looove my herb infused oils and spritz. Today I bring you a great, effective , easy and even better...a natural way to aid in dandruff or dry scalp. Below I will post a very simple way of doing so, this recipe can be made as a oil infusion or a spritz your choice. Before we start let me say when I infuse my DIY's I use heaping tablespoons or a great amount of herbs. I like the infusions to be strong. So I will not list the measurements below, because you can use as much or as little as you like. You do not have to use as much, the results should be the same. Now let's get started:

YOU WILL NEED:

Horsetail ( also great for hair growth, split ends, and dull hair )

Burdock Root ( also great for shine & luster, hair growth , split ends, dry hair, growth, and damaged hair)

Chamomile ( also great for dry hair, sensitive scalp, and itchy scalp)

White Willow ( also great for scalp irritation, and shine & luster)

Coltsfoot ( also great for hair growth, split ends, and growth )

NEXT

Gather your jar, herbs, etc. If infusing in oil of choice ( i.e EVOO, Jojoba, etc) after placing herbs into jar pour your oil over that. You can allow your herbs to sit in a dark cabinet to infuse. Or you can place your herbal mixture in a window seal allowing the sun to aid in the infusion. You can do this either way from anywhere to a few days , weeks , or months. I have let my infusion's sit for 6 months at a time ( but , you must chance the herbs every month) the longer it sits, the stronger the infusion.

OR

You can use the very same herbs , boil some water pour your hot water over the herbs into a container. Allow this to infuse for a few hour's to overnight. Drain the herbs and there you have an herbal spritz. From there you can add Essential oils, Aloe juice ( I always add Aloe , love that stuff). pour into a spry bottle and store in the refrigerator.

Today I bring you recipes for linen sprays, one of my many favorite past times is making homemade sprays, oils, spritz, butters, etc. I love smell goods when I say that I mean my home always smells good with a nice light fragrance of some sort, my bathroom's the very same. Not, to mention they make wonderful gifts for family and friends. So, hey why not our linen..... below I will post a few really great recipes for you ladies to try on your own ( trust me you will love the wonderful fragrance these recipes carry) so let's get started:

JASMINE BERGAMOT A heady combination of potent floral and clean citrus, this is a gift for your most romantic and flower-loving friends.

LAVENDER SANDALWOOD Help soothe stress with the relaxing scent of lavender, rooted in the earthiness of sandalwood.

VANILLA GINGER Give the comforting aroma of vanilla, spiced up with a hint of ginger.

RECIPE:

2 tablespoons of rubbing Alcohol
1 teaspoon jasmine oil and ½ teaspoon bergamot Essential Oil
                        OR
1 teaspoon lavender oil and ½ teaspoon sandalwood oil Essential oil

Mix the Rubbing Alcohol and desired oils in a bottle. Add the distilled water until just full, screw on cap and shake to combine. (The alcohol helps disperse the oils evenly throughout the liquid.) Shake lightly before each use. And......

Hello ladies!

I hope everyone has had a fabulous, yet productive weekend:)). As for myself I did three favorite things I looove to do. I did a little gardening, spent time with my family enjoying the beautiful weather and did lots of reading. One of the books I read ( well, actually re-read, lol) was Grow it, by Chicoro. My reason for re-reading this particular book is simply because I am a different stage in my hair journey. Wanting to implement the very best for my hair and obtain as much knowledge as possible now during the very beginning of THIS journey. I'm talking from the point of BC allllll the way through. One thing That I so regret during my first BC is that I hadn't obtained enough in the education of NATURAL hair care. CHEMICALLY PROCESSED hair yes...All day long (lol) know that like the back of my hand.

While reading I read about weathering, I found it quite interesting while making a ton of sense. Here is what was said;

WEATHERING

Weathering is the gradual wearing away of the cuticle. Because of this damage, the cortex becomes exposed. The cortex, as well as the cuticle, is then worn away. Eventually the hair splits, and ultimately it breaks.

Weathering is a natural process that has little effect on the hair all at once. It is cumulative it occurs because of actions or experiences that are repeated over time. It is speeded up, or expedited by what you do to your hair.

The following all cause weathering, wetting hair, friction on the hair, sunlight, heat from dryers and styling implements, chemicals in the bath, shower or pool water, salt and minerals in the sea water, as well as cosmetic procedures. These all contribute to the rapid weathering of the hair. Weathering is also affected by what you do not do. Not using conditioner on a regular basis, for example is not taking an action. This will result in your hair becoming weathered faster.

The ends of the hair may look lighter in color than the rest because of normal weathering. This affects every one's hair. Heavily weathered hair tends to look even lighter, it has a white grayish cast on the ends. Hair that is severely weathered also tends to be brittle.

Now I know what to look for and what will cause it to happen as well as how to prevent this from happening.

~LETS TALK " HEALTHY ENDS"~....

Hey there Fellow Naturals!

Today I would like to talk about the importance of caring for the ends of our hair. Sometimes we can get so involved on the next best product. That we began to actually think that a product by itself can determine the health of the ends of our hair. All in all the primary factor in seeing that the health of the ends of our hair is well kept would be action..... to know the steps in taking care of the ends of our hair.

I am one who believes that trimming the ends of your hair is a necessary step in our hair journey. Trims helps the ends of the hair to stay soft, smooth and moisturized. If the very bottom of your hair is thinner and see through than lets says the top to mid section of your hair then that's a problem. And, it may be time to figure out exactly why this is happing, is it something you ARE doing regimen or is it something you ARE NOT doing in your regimen. Is it a result of to much stress on the hair strands., tightly twisting , pulling, or combing. There are a plethora of reasons why this could be happing.

But, most importantly no matter what your goal is on this journey, be it length or overall health. We must take care of the ends of our hair. Remember the ends of the hair strand is the oldest part of our hair, and could very well be the most damaged. If you are suffering from thin ends, its important to determine if you wish to have a gorgeous healthy head of hair or just hair on your head ( maybe) lol!

So, take a good look at those ends, and love them so that they can love you back:))

Ingredients:

Distilled Water ,Unsulphured Molasses, Castor Oil ,Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Vitamin E And Vitamin A

I say:

Great stuff! this is yet another fabulous product from her line. With great moisturizing qualities, one thing that this conditioner has different is Castor oil as a ingredient which is a protein. So for those of you who may be looking for a great moisturizing Deep Conditioner with a bit of protein, this may very well be what your looking for. This is a great conditioner especially for the warmer months ( but could be year round as well, for some) molasses is a humectant so caution to those whose hair reacts differently in the winter due to added humectants. The slip is AMAZING, the scent is pleasant, the consistency is a bit thicker than the other two conditioners I've used. My hair felt soft and moisturized after using. This little number here is running very close to the "Honey Hair Mask" . But, I must admit the "Honey Hair Mask" conditioner is still my front runner...my absolute favorite of all favorite deep conditioners. The "Honey Hair Mask added a bit more moisture than this one. But, this one is running very close behind. Will I repurchase..Yes I plan to keep this one close for when and if I feel my hair needs a bit of a light protein.

HONEY HAIR MOISTURIZING CREME ( for dry frizzy hair):

THEY SAY:

The Honey Hair Creme is for you if you "Got tight, coarse, frizzy curls? The Honey Hair Creme replaces natural oils lost during blow-drying or everyday stress and abuse. Transforms puffy, parched hair into a perfect smooth, supple texture.

INGREDIENTS:

Raw Honey,Shea Butter,Coconut Butter,Cocoa Butter, Almond Butter,and Mimosa Oil.

I SAY:

This is a great added addition to my arsenal from MyHoney child. The ingredients are great , it has great moisturizing qualities, the scent is pleasant. This creme has a medium consistency. On my 3b/3c hair a very little is needed for fear of weighing down my hair but moisturizes well. On my daughters 4a/4b hair is ....stellar! this leaves her hair moisturized for days without being greasy. This is a keeper in my home its very hard finding a moisturizer for my daughters 4a/4b hair that actually does that...moisturizes. I've tried many other brands for her hair including Oyin, Qhemet ( amla & olive) nothing worked for her hair but this little number. Will I repurchase ..yes indeed!

Here I will post another great article found at Naturally Curly.com giving helpful tips to combat those days when our hair wants to act ...lets say other than we would like. Here is what is said:

Essential Oils

Chaz Dean, celebrity stylist and founder of Wen Hair & Body Care products and Chaz Dean Studio in Hollywood, Calif., suggests using a product with essential oils as a leave-in treatment for unruly tresses. His product line includes cleansing conditioners, styling cremes and texture balm (all containing plant and fruit extracts), as well as three bath, body and hair oils: Tea Tree (especially for sensitive, dry or flaky scalps), Fig and Sweet Almond Mint.

“It’s cold-pressed oil that helps penetrate into the hair to where it’s not greasy,” Dean says. “The oils are used directly on the scalp as a treatment and to help stimulate healthy hair growth, especially in the months we’re approaching.”

Ethan Shaw, a stylist at Anne Kelso Salon in Austin, Texas, suggests carrying a spray bottle with an essential oil as a time-saving tool to prevent frizzy hair and perk up droopy curls on the second or third day.

“I like tea tree oil, and you can mix it with water,” Shaw says. “The oil is light enough that it’s not going to make your hair feel oily, and just heavy enough to give you a little more control than just water would.”

He recommends the Bumble & Bumble Tonic. Or you can create your own by filling an 8-ounce spray bottle with water and half an ounce of tea tree oil.

It’s great when you’re on the go,” he says. “And if you’re really trying to fight the humidity, for some types of curly hair, that’s going to give a firmer hold.”

Deep Condition

Christine Williamson of Carriage House Salon & Spa in Cambridge, MA also recommends a deep-conditioning treatment — either in the salon or once a week at home.

The cuticle in curly hair, because of the spiral, stands out a little bit, which causes the frizz and bushiness,” Williamson says. “When you’re applying the deep conditioning treatment, you comb it through with a wide-tooth comb, and then put on a shower cap to add a bit of heat and intensify the treatment.”

Shampoo strips the hair of its sheen, moisture, luster and shine so it leaves it dry, dull, and frizzy automatically,” says Dean, who urges curlies to use a detergent-free cleansing conditioner instead.

When choosing a conditioner, Dean cautions against protein-boosting products.

“A lot of leave-in conditioners and deep conditioners contain protein,” he says. “Although a lot of companies think protein is good for the hair, I’m one who does not believe in that whatsoever. Hair is made up of protein, so when you add more protein to it (which is a strengthener), there’s no flexibility so the hair just cracks and breaks. What the hair needs is moisture.”

One thing I learned in my quest to be “greener” was to rinse out the plastic bottles and recycle them, along with the paper instructions and the packaging. Even most small towns offer recycling of some sort. It is not imperative to completely cleanse your recyclables – using too much water defeats the purpose. A good rinse will do just fine.

Hello...Hello ladies!

Today I bring an great article via the fabulous and very informative "Chicoro". In this article she speaks about using the "IH" method for caring for your natural hair. She goes onto say:

Lots of people use the "IH" method in their lives. What is the "IH" method? the "IH" method stands for, "I heard..." many people go buy what they heard and incorporate this method and use only this method in their search for better hair care.

There is always a grain of truth to what you hear. When you hear about someone is doing , if you can ask them why they are doing it. Verify, the purpose. You may find that they have a host of situations and circumstances that pertain to them , and their hair care but not necessarily to yours. If you hear something and it sounds interesting, research it. Start at the Internet, library, etc. Drill down into scientific articles. Don't just accept something because you heard it.

This is how many unscrupulous cosmetic companies strip your pockets and your hair. It's one thing to buy something and know what your getting its another thing to buy something and use it and not be able to explain why. Women have far less economic power or money than men, when compared on a global basis. Yet, are charged more for our personal care products and are subjected to having all kinds of unregulated synthetic chemicals and components placed in our products.

The "IH" method is okay to start with when trying to learn new information. Please don't let it be the only way you make your decisions about your hair and your hair care. As with all things in life worth having, beautiful hair requires work and knowledge . Both of which are do-able for you and attainable by you.

MY THOUGHTS ON MYHONEYCHILDS ~ BUTTERY SOY HAIR CREME~...

Today I will be sharing my thoughts on My Honeychilds "Buttery Soy Creme". I purchased this before my second BC ( along with a few more of my products I plan to review , now the the children and I are on spring break for a few days maybe I can get them all done , lol) so its been a few months or so that I've had this product. Onto the review, let's take a brief look at what she says about the product:

THEY SAY :

The Buttery Soy Creme will soothe a sensitive,dry itchy scalp, promote and maintain healthy hair growth while eliminating dry scalp and breakage. It adds manageability and shine to naturally curly, wavy, frizzy and coarse hair. It enhances waves and curls, add and maintain moisture to dry, brittle and damaged hair.

INGREDIENTS:

Soy Butter,Soy Nut Oil, Raw Honey, Coconut oil,Vitamin A , Vitamin E, Butter essence oil and purified water .

I SAY:

It does exactly what it states it will do. My middle daughter was suffering from a bit of dryness in her scalp from time to time during the winter months. Due, to the dry air and let me tell you I used some of this for a while on her scalp , and her scalp loved it ...no more dryness !. This is a great creme! it is super thick in texture, so only a little is needed. Has a scent that puts me in the mind of vanilla cake batter ( which isn't bad). Provides excellent moisture to the hair, I would say it would be excellent used during the winter months, it would definitely give the moisture needed for that time of the year. I would also say it's a heavy creme, for my 4b/4c ladies ( like my oldest daughter), ...stellar! and for my 3b/3c ladies ( like myself) excellent as well just be sure to use a very little , especially if your hair is fine it could way your hair down if to much is used. I've found that I really didn't have to reapply for a few days, that how thick and moisturizing this creme is. It provides great shine, and left our hair super soft. And from my experience goes on easy. This little number is a keeper in my household for the winter months.

I know there isn't much talk about My Honeychild products. But, ladies let me reassure you I have had great moisturizing days using her products. Her products are very moisturizing , I have a few more reviews to do from her line and to be completely honest with you, I haven't tried them all . But, I only have 1 (one) product thus far that I've purchased that I wasn't raving about and will not be repurchasing. As you guys may know , I am in love with my steamer. really.... I do believe it maybe one of the best investments in my natural hair journey. Why?...well, because this Conditioner is FABULOUS!, hands down one of the best I've tried thus far. Now, I was really big on MyHoneyChild's "Olive You" in which I still like. The Honey Hair Mask is an intensive nourishing treatment is formulated with Raw Honey, Coconut Milk to improve the texture and strength of hair that tends to be dry, coarse, brittle, or chemically-processed. Ideal for conditioning for chemically treated hair ,contains excellent detangling properties for increased manageability ,can enhance wet combing and reduce flyaway contains oils for reducing damage and strengthening hair.

I SAY:

It does everything for my 3b/3c hair as well as my oldest daughters 4a/4b hair that it said it would do. This baby here.....MOISTURIZING. The slip amazing,.... the smell nice...., When I use this on my hair ( as well as my daughters) it leaves my hair super soft....for days. Along with the steamer...stellar!. And, the ingredients are great!

The pH on this is a wonderful 5. Which is an additional 5 star for this conditioner. I am a stickler on pH balanced products for my hair.   in making sure the products I use in my hair are pH balanced. I truly believe that is key, to healthy happy hair.

I will be keeping a stock of this in my closet. Now, MyHoneyChild products are a bit pricey, but in my opinion when you find a product that works as well as this does on not only my hair but all three of my daughters hair, and with great results, you can not loose. It's well worth the price.

Hello fabulous fellow naturals!

Today I want to share in my excitement of my new BFF, my hair steamer! . I 've had this little number for about 2-3 weeks. And, I couldn't be happier, I love how my hair feels after using it. I purchased it from
LCL Beauty on eBay, at the great price of $ 90.00 The reason why it was discounted is because of minor scratches to the hood,. It came brand new, well packed, super quick free shipping. And, works great, in fact I can barely see the scratches, so that works for me and it doesn't compromise the performance of the steamer what so ever.

Another, reason why I chose to go with LCL Beauty oppose to the heutiful hair steamer was the height adjustment. Which is perfect especially, because I wanted to use it on my 2 oldest daughters hair as well as mine. And, it works out perfectly for each of us, super easy to adjust for each of our height. It has the rolling wheels, so that it's really easy to place it where you like, and fits perfectly in the corner out of the way. And, the hood is adjustable!

I use my steamer once weekly, yes ....I steam my BC or what's becoming my TWA, I sure do! (smiles). I wanted to start the extra conditioning regimen ASAP on my hair, even at its shortest point. Which is something I did not do when I first BC'd, in fact I was really uneducated at that importance of deep conditioning, and moisturizing not realizing that both of these are key, to healthy hair.

So, this time around there are things that I will not do in the way of my hair journey, and things I will be implementing for the very first time.

Getting back to my weekly steaming process ( in which I looove) currently my two favorite conditioners that work tremendously with the steamer are the " My Honey Child Molasses Hydrating Deep Conditioner" and

After, my steam treatments my hair is super soft, very moisturized, and my cuticles are very smooth. I definitely can tell the difference from using a hood dryer, as well as the heating cap ( in which I still like very much, that would be my second alternative to the hair steamer, as far as great results) compared to the steamer. I hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend. Today lets talk color. From time to time I have heard naturals debate about the topic of color, questioning if a natural color's her hair, Is she then not considered to be natural. I'm talking permanent color, semi color or even a rinse. I know from experience that when using permanent color there are harsh chemicals involved, consisting of bleach, peroxide of different volumes, etc. Which could in fact ( I don't know , because I've never done color on natural hair) change the texture and or curl pattern of the hair strands.

So, ladies sound off, What do you ladies think , If you color your natural hair are you then no longer considered natural?

FOR MY BEAUTIFUL SISTERS IN AL- ISLAAM....

As Salaamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullaah to my beautiful sisters in Islaam and Hello to All,

I received a email from a beautiful fellow sister in Islaam, yesterday. In her email she stated having difficulty retain moisture while wearing hijab ( head covering). This problem is pretty common especially amongst my sisters in Islaam because we adorn our selves with the beautiful hijab ( head covering) daily,Walhumdulliaah!
(And, all praise be to Allaah)

Many of us ( Muslim women) wear a tube scarf, or under scarf of some sort under our hijab. We must make sure not to use cotton under scarves for any reason at all. Just as we should sleep with a satin bonnet on our hair as we rest or a satin pillow case. Using satin for our under scarves , to cover our hair nightly or a satin pillow case is essential. why? ....well, because cotton absorbs the hairs natural oils and moisture causing hair damage as you will get the very same results from sleeping on a cotton pillow case which dries the hair out causing friction ( in which we talked about in yesterdays post which you can find here http://aunaturale007.blogspot.com/2011/04/importance-of-lubricating-hair-dfe.html leaving the hair very dry and brittle. Satin on the other hand does the very opposite it does not leave the hair dry and brittle, because it does not soak up the hair's moisture. Satin is a pretty lightweight material, so the feel of bulkiness under our Hijabs (head coverings) will be absent, Inshaa Allaah ( God willing)

For all of my Fabulous sisters out there who sew, you can go to the material store and by satin material to make your very own under scarves and or pillowcases. And, for those sisters who do not sew there are a plethora of hijab stores online and maybe in the area in which you live where you can purchase a few satin under scarves ( i.e. dollar stores, beauty supply stores, etc). THE IMPORTANCE OF LUBRICATING THE HAIR... AND... DFE

Hey there fabulous fellow naturals!

Today this post comes from the fabulous Chicoro many of you ladies know I am a huge fan of hers. And, for what ever reason this time around my hair journey has additional meanings. You, know..... you may have done something previously , and then find your self repeating that " Thing" but it means something more or there are additional meanings to it then the very first time........yeah, that's where I am.

Here she speaks about DFE directional friction to the hair ( who knew). In essence were speaking of friction. Friction is a type of force that resists the motion of materials sliding against each other. read further, here is what she says:

1. DFE is present on natural healthy hair.
2. It helps your hairs, align on your head in the same direction.
3. DFE helps your hair to avoid or lesson the amount of tangles you get in your hair.
4. Basically DFE helps your hair to go naturally in the same direction. Once the DFE is no longer present in your hair , your hair will tend to get tangled and matted.

HOW TO EXPERIENCE DFE IN YOUR HAIR:

Rub a hair strand from root to tip.

Rub that very same hair strand from tip to root.

The friction will be less, if you run your fingers along your hair from the scalp, which is the root to the ends, which is the tip.

The roughness you feel when rubbing against the direction of the hair cuticle, which is the tip to the root. Is the higher amount of friction of the DFE.

POINTS TO REMEMBER

1. Oil or oily substances have many benefits for natural hair.
2. It keeps the hair lubricated and reduces friction.
3. Lubrication is important because it helps hair to align in the same direction.
4. Keep your hair healthy.
5. To maintain DFE on your hair, keep hair covered in the sun.

Hello fabulous naturals! I have missed you all. And, have been enjoying my time away from AuNaturale. But, lately I am finding how much I really miss the blog, interacting with fellow naturals, and learning much from each and everyone of you.

I have also realized that since posting my very last post here at AuNaturale. I am still getting followers, how awesome is that! I had to stop...and think for a moment and realize, perhaps its time for me to get into the swing of things. And, maybe ...just maybe now is my time crank this baby back up (lol).

The end of the school year is slowly approaching, I will have a bit (just a bit) of free (me) time. While making sure to keep my family priorities in tact , along with my religious priorties I should be fine. My plans are to not blog often , to go along as I feel. Soooo I am officially back ! (smiles)

SO HERE'S WHATS NEW WITH ME

I did my second BC on march 23rd ( YAY!!!) I am super excited. Initially I said I wasnt going to do it after saying I was, but one day I just said what the heck...I was feeling Big choppish (lol). My plans are to wear it in a TWA for a while and then go from there , maybe I will attempt to let it grow to its fullest ( god willing).

Hello fabulous fellow naturals! (big smiles)

I've missed you ladies, Although it's been quite a while since I did a post. I continued to check in from time to time and visit some of my favorite blogs. My time away from AuNaturale has been well needed , I was and continue to spend and direct more attention to a few very important area's in my life. My worship, My Family and self improvement. And to be quite honest, I really enjoyed my time away from blogging don't get me wrong I loooooove AuNaturale and all that it has brought me...... I have meant some the most fantastic women here at AuNaturale. Who has inspired me in more ways than you ladies can imagine. It truly has been an honor and a joy!!!

But, somethings come in seasons and AuNaturale happened to be a season for me , I know when my time is up and when its time to move onward and upward. And my time has come to let AuNaturale go. Blogging comes with just as many demands ( for me anyway, because when I go... I go hard) as many other things in my life. Coupled with being a full time wife , home school mom, and most importantly dedicating more time to my worship, as well as not forgetting about....me and what I need and deserve.... it can become a bit much.

I intend to keep AuNaturale up for as long as blogger allows. In hopes that it will continue to help and inspire fabulous naturals and upcoming fabulous naturals. I will continue to stop by AuNaturale and support all of the natural hair blogs out in the blogging world when time allows. Hello fabulous fellow naturals!

I've decided to take a break from blogging. I have been blogging here at AuNaturale for a little over a year, and to be quite honest I feel myself getting bored with it. I'm just not as in to it as I use to be. I figure a little time off from AuNaturale may be just what the doctor ordered :)

Although, I will be taking some time off from posting on AuNaturale.  I will still be checking in on a few my favorite blogs in which are listed here in my blog list. So, know worries I will still be around enjoying all that the rest of the natural hair blogs has to offer :)

Feel free to browse as you like. There is a wealth of information here at AuNaturale, not only from what I post but from some of the most fabulous fellow naturals out there. Hello fabulous fellow naturals!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful day thus far. I come to you today in the spirit of positivity and inspiration. I am very passionate about both subjects at hand. It's both of these very subjects that often get me through each and every day. Of course the help of my creator comes first, but positivity and inspiration follows there after. I tell my children that a positive mindset can lead you in places where you've never thought you could go. And, a bit of inspiration can give you that extra push to get there!

Inspiration comes in many forms it can come through, your creator, a book, a song, a poem, a television show, a friend, your sister in religion , family members, your spouse, your children, your fellow bloggers, your teacher, your president,your first lady ( presidents wife) your co- workers, your neighbor, and yes...even a complete stranger!

One, goal I have EVERY SINGLE DAY is to be a inspiration to others....even the very people who don't even know who I am. Those very people who don't even know my name. And those very same people ..who may have hurt me in my past and or present.

Another passion of mines is to spread positivity to each and every person I come in contact with. You never know who it may help. But, just as important it helps YOU!

5 TIPS FOR THINNING HAIR....

Hello ladies!

I have been asked a few times since being natural tips for those fellow naturals who may be suffering from thinning hair. I came across a few great tips from naturally curly.com that I thought would help those who may have this problem.. Of course after perhaps consulting with your physician , especially if your hair seems to be thinning more than normal and at a severely quick rate. Thinning hare can often be a serious sign of health or hormonal issues , or even a sign of stress. But if you don't fall under this category here are a few tips I found to get you started:

Use a Mousse Instead of a Gel

Gel is not the best choice for thinning hair. Gel binds hair together, making your scalp more visible. Instead use a mousse. It dries softer and can add volume.

Using duckbill clips to add volume at the crown of your head helps. The last step in this process is to dry your curls with a diffuser while hanging your head upside down. This really gets the volume pumped up.

Healthy Scalp, Healthy Hair

Since hair grows from a healthy follicle, your scalp needs to be healthy. Scalp oils or essential oils can really promote a healthy scalp. Layers of product and chemical treatment can take their toll on your hair as well as your scalp.

make your own mixture of oils into your scalp at bedtime, and then cover your head. Have a good night’s sleep and then gently cleanse your hair and scalp in the morning. Try this recipe of oils for an overnight treatment:

2 drops of lavender oil

2 drops of rosemary oil

2 drops of thyme oil

3 drops of jojoba oil

Semi-Permanent Hair Color is a Good Thing

If you must use hair coloring its strongly suggested that you consider semi- permanent hair coloring. Due to the fact that it doesn't contain harsh chemicals such as ammonia and or peroxide. And in most cases it will not damage your hair or scalp. It's been said it will help in providing more body and volume than permanent hair color will. This should really be applied by a professional colored hair can easily over process which causes further damage which can in turn cause further hair loss.

Gentle Care and Conditioning

Certain styles can cause breakage or root damage. Try to avoid tight braiding, buns, or ponytails. Detangling combs or brushes should have smooth tips and be widely spaced. Sharp toothed combs and brushes can scratch your scalp and cause split ends.

Be sure when you are detangling to use a light conditioner and gently use your detangling comb or even your fingers. Start from the ends of your hair and work upwards. Use more conditioner on the ends of your hair and a lot less on the crown of your head. Use A super light conditioner with a lot of moisturizing power that will not weigh your hair down.

Reduce your stress

Once again , Hair loss can be attributed to health issues, heredity and stress levels. If one or all of these are concerns for you, your stress is the only one you can do something about immediately. Go take a walk or plan to go to a yoga class tonight. Arrange to go out with your friends this week and enjoy their company. Get up from your desk and get a drink of water. Breath and find a calming activity that will reduce your stress level. It sounds so easy doesn’t it? We all know it isn’t but the effort is worth it!
